Niebla is located in the
province of Huelva, in
Andalusia. It is the capital of the historical County of Niebla in the old
Kingdom of Seville, the County during the first, second and third
Taifa Kingdoms it was the centre for the
Taifa of Niebla, now days it has a population of 4000 inhabitants, it is situated 45 above sea level and it geographic coordinates are 37º 21' N, 6º 40' O.
In antiquity they had connections with the
Phoenicians thank to mining and the fact that the
Rio Tinto river was navigable right to the very doors of the city. In roman times the old
roman road that connected the
Guadiana river mouth with
Italica. The town has an important historical heritage. In regards to its monuments they are worthy of note old Roman Bridge (quite reformed), the
Church of La Granada, which is a little and humble building of roman origin raised on top of what was the main
mosque of Niebla and it is of gothic
mudejar style which preserve some vestiges of the old
paleochristian cathedral like the old
episcopal chair. There are also the remains of the Church of San Martin, a damage basilica when the Lisbon earthquake and the Castle of Guzmanes, an architectural work of roman origin which has suffered many reforms by its successive occupants: Visigoth, Arabs and Christians.
